Honest opinion? (Is there any other kind? LOL) It's beautiful.... BUT...(yeah there's a but!) I loved to see all the beautiful stones, and I just bemoan the fact that many of them are hiding in the middle as 'ballast' never to be seen again! How about next time you do something like this, throw in one layer of polished stones to cover the 'top of the skull' and then place a 'core' ...maybe just a few ordinary river pebbles, or broken glass smack in the middle. Add the beautiful polished stones just around on the outside...to surround it so that it's covered, I know it will take a little time to 'pack them...but then you can also decide which ones you want where... when done, pour in your resin slowly to fill all the inbetween gaps.... Yeah, I know it sounds like more work...but you polished stones will all have a purpose to look beautiful! Anyway, this skull would be a very impressive paperweight on a beautiful desk! Take care!

Thanks for the reassurance in this project. I'll build one like your prototype this week. I thought my surfaces were level, but I use 14" round molds a lot, which easily demonstrate how level (or not) the surface really is. Even so, I usually reverse the orientation when I put on the top coat. Even 1/8" difference is obvious on these platters.

Steve, can I give you a tip, one I learned the hard way, Don't stir resin when it's got red, yellow, & blue, or red yellow & green all together in it, because it's very likely to make a muddy result. If you must stir the colours, then only stir them very slightly and you will find you get better, prettier results. Hope that helps you. Colours are treacherous little things when you mix them together. The more you disturb them, or stir them together, the more ugly they become, Lol. All the best in your resin work etc.
